The show piece event of the opening day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo, the Keita Maruyama Fall 2016 collection, debuted to a packed house on Monday night. Titled, Dark Night Dreams, the collection was split into two sections. The first, "Dark Night" featured star map prints on deep blacks and navy blues. The second "Dreams" featured sweet sleepwear inspired prints in an array of pastel hues. The overall effect was purposefully jarring, similar to the experience of waking up after a  lucid dream and made for fantastic fashion theater. Adding to the "fashion theater" feel of the evening were the many dignitaries and celebrities in attendance, including singer turned fashion designer Gwen Stefani who proclaimed to be a huge fan of Maruyama's work.
