2001: A Space Odyssey was the inspiration behind Atsushi Nakashima's gorgeous Spring 2016 show. Bold in blacks, whites, red, and khaki with occasional metallic touches the pieces really showed off Nakashima's skill at refining down an idea to only the best elements of an inspiration, and then creating actual, wearable pieces that retain his creative point of view without ever getting kitschy or 'over the top.' These pieces seem to ooze a no-drama queen vibe, they're cool, easy and never trying too hard.
That's not to say that the show itself wasn't without drama. There was plenty on that front via the elaborate set design, inspired by the Tunnel in 2001, which was amplified with lasers that seem to shoot out and around models as they made their way down the darkened sideline of the set only to pose momentarily in front of the media riser before retreating back up the darkened sidelines.
