One would only have to witness the first 30 seconds or so of the ETW. Vonnegut Spring 2014 runway show to know something unusual was taking place. Staged in Miyashita Park, which is a narrow strip of greenery that runs along Tokyo's massive Boulevard Meiji Dori, during the Shibuya Fashion Festival, the collection was a true representation of young avant-garde Japanese design.
With a obvious flair for the dramatic ETW Vonnegut designer, Olga (by all records she uses only one name) slowly evolved her collection from relaxed shapes in digital prints and hyper-saturated hues into more aggressively avant-garde pieces, with plenty of sexy urban looks in between. The finale of the show, a pair of highly sculptural gowns which crossed over into the wearable-art side of fashion, were stunning to behold in their mystifying construction.
