Drawing on a variety of inspirations, which although the designer was reticent to name directly clearly included patterns and iconography from Native North American cultures and hints of modern Scandinavian design, the Yoshio Kubo Fall 2016 was an eclectic mash-up of ideas and creativity that is unusual in the global men's wear market. The silhouettes were varied and included everything from ponchos and bomber jackets to tunics and blazers all executed with Kubo's trademark precision in tailoring. And while at times "the story" of the collection felt a little hard to follow, there was pure experimental energy to the pieces that really spoke to the new, more aggressive fashion guy, who clearly is Kubo's customer, and who clearly is ready to push boundaries and shake off old ideas about what men's wear has to be.
