Tokyo: Sulvam Fall 2015

In his first ever runway show for his 2-year old brand Sulvam, designer Teppei Fujita went dark with a heavily black-on-black collection that had only a handful of color pops. The designs themselves, which earned him a Tokyo Fashion Award for "showing potential to grow in the international market", were complex but not fussy, and showed off Fujita's skill for both perfect construction and menswear innovation. Backstage before the show, representatives from the label explained to me via translator that the designer "wanted to make cool clothes that he wanted to wear, not necessarily working from some distinct inspiration, or story, simply just what he felt was missing from the men's wear market."
