New York: Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2015

Desire, yearning, and the exquisite torture of unrequited love (namely that which poet William Butler Yeats had for his muse Maud Gonne) was the inspiration for the Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2015 runway show. A heady inspiration for sure, but as the designer has proven season after season, Mohapatra is a master at using fashion to express human emotion, especially when twinged with sadness, in a form that is subtle, sophisticated and accessible.

There were many fantastic pieces throughout the show all of which had the designer's trademark flawless construction and graceful details, but for me  it was the spectacular array of gowns that closed the show that made my fashion heart swoon. From the sleek, black "cold shoulder" gown with onyx beading, to the fluid soft gray gown with sheer details, to the deep crimson strapless gown, these pieces definitely ignited desire and yearning in my heart.
