Tokyo: Johan Ku Gold Label Spring 2017

It has been a wild month America and we aren't done yet. So while, in truth, many of us here at Style Wylde are still reeling, and grieving over the political landscape in the United States of America, we want to refocus on fashion. And what better way to take a break from it all than to take a look at designer Johan Ku's simply stunning punk-rock inspired Spring 2017 collection which showed at Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo back in October.

Now available globally through the official website johanku.co.uk , the designer's work has always been a favorite at the Tokyo collections, and often catches the eye of major international glossies like Vogue and Women's Wear Daily as well as in-the-know-fashionistas world wide. The reasons for this following are clear; the designer draws on intriguing concepts (our favorite is The Thing inspired AW16 show - photos here), he has exquisite skill for construction, and his execution of an idea is always first-rate.

For Spring 2017 all these elements (and more) were present. Drawing on punk-rock subcultures for inspiration, Ku created a stunning array of looks that capitalized on his talent for construction via draped and tucked silhouettes that felt entirely new, and his talent for flawless execution that brought the inspiration to life on the runway without ever looking silly or overly literal.
