New York: Degen Fall 2015

Whimsical with a healthy does of "f-you fashion establishment!" attitude, the Degen show has been a favorite of SW for many seasons. Designer Lindsay Degen is that rare find in the fashion world: a creative, inspired artist who truly isn't trying to sell her work to the mass market. For Fall 2015 Degen was inspired by the oversized art pieces created by artist Claes Oldenburg in 1961, and the designer's own feelings about the current state of art, and design in the fashion commerce world.  In the official show notes Degen said "This season, I found myself more frustrated than ever about the buyer system that is in place and the future of sales in the fashion world. Inspired by Oldenburg’s outlook on art & commerce, I decided to make larger-than-life sized sweater shaped art objects. I intended these pieces to read as one-of-a-kind and be recognized for their aesthetic worth and handmade beauty; not their wearability."

In addition to the wearble-art pieces Degen designed for her show, the beauty and nail looks at Degen Fall 2015 were also outstanding. The beauty done by Mahasin Phillips for INGLOT was "inspired to complement the collection with the idea of non traditional beauty makeup, incorporating abstract loops and swirls that mimicked the designs in the collection. We wanted the look to be beautiful, clean and technically structured…yet incomplete going against industry standards.” While the nails were a series of bold stripes and waves done by artist Casey Herman using China Glaze Nail Lacquer
