For those of us that partake of the peroxide, keeping blond locks beautiful and can be tricky business. Of course no one wants to be a brassy blonde but those "violet" shampoos that stylists always recommend tend to deposit violet or gray tones into the hair. And when you've paid $300+ a pop for perfectly platinum and pink hair like I do every 6-8 weeks, you do NOT want to mess up the color balance with streaks of purple or gray.
So was I excited when my friends at beauty brand Klorane asked me to test drive their new Shampoo with Centaury for a review on Style Wylde?
You betcha! Here's why.
1. The product has no synthetic colorants in it. Instead it uses natural Centaurea flower extract, a vegetal pigment that contains blue tints, so it shouldn't over deposit purple tones like products with synthetic pigments can.
2. It contains no silicone, or parabens, so it won't weigh hair down
3. It retails for about $13 for a 6.7 ounce bottle so I don't feel bad recommending it to my readers who might not have enormous personal beauty budgets.
How it worked for me:
In the shower it suds up nicely with a floral scent that reminded me of honeysuckle. The packaging info said to simply wash once and towel dry, but I did follow with TRESemme Keratin Smooth treatment, because my hair is so processed I can't even consider not using some kind of conditioner.

Out of the shower, my hair was smooth, and looked really shiny, almost metallic silvery but not gray or purple at all. Previously to trying the Klorane product I've always used Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo, which does immediately eliminate yellow from hair, but you have to be REALLY careful because it totally turns platinum hair purple, and made my pink streaks look magenta.
The Klorane Shampoo with centaury has a much more subtle effect, but the shine and 'de-yellowing' was still there, and my pink streaks were still pink! (Which is a great relief because my stylist, Dwight Davis at Stephen Saiz Salon, gives me the angry-disapproving frown when I come in with my color jacked by toning shampoo.)
The conclusion..
I am definitely going to switch to Klorane Shampoo with Centaury going forward. As with any toning shampoo, I think it's wise to start using it once a week and move up from there as needed as a "just in case" measure against purpling-up my hair.
